I don’t specialize in one genre or subject matter, so I’m probably difficult to categorize as an artist. Generally, you could say I’m a watercolorist, but I also draw with ink dipped in a stick and do urban sketching with a ballpoint pen. I generally draw and paint on a daily basis and I teach watercolor classes.
"For me art is about seeing."
As I think about it, it seems to me that seeing is a central issue in artwork. For instance, most of our problems with drawing are really problems with seeing. The issue is to let our world inform us, so that we see things as they are. I don't mean only in a literal sense, but also, the essence of things and the meaning of things. In this sense, art is a microcosm of the rest of life, because we have difficulty seeing ourselves clearly and we judge others because often we do not see them clearly. Seeing is a central issue in both art and life.
